As a best selling novel, ’50 Shades of Grey’ has done very well to make itself hated.  I do sometimes wonder however if I am the only person in the world to have actually read it.  Or indeed of I have something strangely wrong with me that prevents me from being overwhelmed by the sex and seeing the emotions in face of insurmountable odds.

I’m not going to say that ‘5o Shades of Grey’ is a great work of literature and I have to admit that after the first few chapters I thought I would throw the book out of the window if I read the word ‘ delicious’ one more time, but it’s really not the tale of perversion some have made it out to be.

’50 Shades of Grey’ is a melodramatic fairy tale.  The character of 50 Shades is an emotional mess and SDM is his way of expressing his sexuality in a controlled environment that leaves his heart out of the matter.  He is a handsome prince in an ivory tower of his own building,  a beast of his own making, wrapped up in self-loathing and freed ultimately by unconditional love. Ahhhh.

Again, I’m not saying it’s literature.  But it’s very sweet.  And if you have a heart under your cynicism you should see that the story is not really about sex, deviant or otherwise; it’s about love, passion and redemption.  It may as well have ‘and they lived happily ever after’ at the end.
